The HSM Group has once again opened its doors for their summer internship programme and has welcomed seven students from the Cayman Islands Further Education Centre (CIFEC).
Cliff Weeks Jr, Alanee Morgan, Janiya Jackson, Javari Pearson, Robert Chung, Korey Berry and Eva Bothwell have joined the HSM team for the summer.
The HSM Group is a full-service law firm and corporate services provider, which offers students the ability to gain experiences across a variety of practices including property, debt collection, intellectual property, corporate services, compliance and even areas outside of law, such as marketing and finance.
HSM’s 2024 summer internship programme takes place July through August and falls shortly after an 8-month long work experience stint with the CIFEC internship programme. HSM offered 13 placements for the 2023/24 academic year.
“For over a decade, HSM’s summer internship programme has been instrumental in developing young professionals,” shares HSM Managing Partner, Huw Moses OBE. “…and I am proud to say that some interns have continued into full-time positions with our firm.”
HSM will be participating at CIFEC’s 2024 Career Fair in September. HSM has supported the CIFEC programme since they opened their doors in 2012 and employs six CIFEC graduates full-time.

The HSM Group is proud to continue its internship programme in partnership with the Cayman Islands Further Education Centre (CIFEC) by offering 13 placements for the 2023/24 academic year.
As part of the CIFEC curriculum, the internship began in October 2023 and concludes in April 2024. Each student attends work twice a week during school hours and has been carefully paired with a lawyer or expert at HSM.
HSM’s team of interns include: Robert Chung, Janiya Jackson, Javari Pearson, Omari Powell, Eva Bothwell, Aquinle ‘Bria’ Missick, Jancarlos Hernandez, Korey Berry, Angelie Bodden, Jazmynn McCoy, Cliff Weeks Jr., Alanee Morgan and Pertrice Ambersley.

Some students have commented on their time at HSM:
“This experience allows us to have a peek of work life in the future. It also builds practical job skills for one’s future career. This internship has helped me to learn and enhance my skills in the workplace,” shares Pertrice Ambersley.
“I have formed connections and met a lot of welcoming people. I have also learned about a day in the life of an intellectual property assistant. Working in this field helps you develop your communication skills,” shares Janiya Jackson.
“My time here has been amazing. I am learning new things and the people here are so patient as well as fun. The work is also challenging so I am never bored. I feel prepared for the future and have a better idea of what I want to do,” shares Javari Pearson.

As the programme nears competition, students may have the opportunity to attain a summer work placement. In 2023, three summer students were offered full-time positions at HSM IP.

The team at HSM has welcomed 15 interns: Tarek Figueroa, Briana Rodriquez, Jamari Samuda, Jelissa Bush, Elijah Lawrence, Jamila Andrade, Nathaniel Scott, Joel Watler, Antjuan Lawrence, Janely Reeves, Mahalia Archer, Phyliss Brown, Kayleigh Bush, Jenae Whittaker and Courtney Reid.
HSM is a full-service law firm and corporate services provider, which offers students the ability to gain experiences across a wide-range of practices including immigration, debt collection, intellectual property, corporate services and even areas outside of law, such as finance and marketing.
These students were interviewed at the CIFEC Careers Fair on 23 September 2022. HSM participated at this fair with a booth, which gave students an opportunity to learn about HSM as well as make a formal application.
Each of these students have been carefully paired with a lawyer or expert at HSM. These personnel will monitor the student’s work and provide mentoring.
While some students are still figuring out what they want to do with their career, CIFEC student Jamila Andrade asipires to become a lawyer and shares, “I am grateful for this experience and was over the moon when I found out I got a placement. I am learning a lot so far.”

Eleven interns have been recruited from the CIFEC Career Fair that was held in September 2019. The team at HSM has welcomed: Joshua Bent, Nahomy Bonilla-Zelaya, Derique Powery, Sheyla Scott, Rickhams Zuniga, Aaliyah Morris, Toshonna Kelly, Zara Hydes, Chrissy Stewart-Brown, Nyanza Henry and Amaya Jackson.
Since HSM is a full-service law firm, these students are able to gain experiences across a wide-range of practices including immigration, debt collection, intellectual property and even areas outside of law, such as finance.
Natasha Whitelocke coordinates the CIFEC Internship Programme on behalf of HSM and is also the Head IP Paralegal. Whitelocke along with HSM’s Managing Partner, Huw Moses, carefully select and pair an intern with a lawyer or expert at HSM. These personnel will monitor the student’s work and mentor their professionalism.

When the programme ends, HSM offers a select amount of summer jobs that will provide some students a deeper look into the working world. HSM currently employs six CIFEC graduates fulltime.
“We remain committed and passionate about developing Cayman’s next generation of professionals,” shares HSM Managing Partner, Huw Moses OBE. “Whether they become lawyers or not, our team will also teach them the basic skills needed to excel in any industry they choose.”
HSM has worked with the CIFEC progamme since the firm’s inception in 2012.
